Coastal Rivers Project

In partnership with the North Devon World Surf Reserve (NDWSR)  and North Devon National Trust (NT) we are working as the communications and activation partner on a pilot water quality improvement programme funded by the Save the Waves Coalition which aims to:

  • Use the Combesgate tributary as a case study to assess whether water quality is improved and flow is slowed

  • Communicate success and recruit citizen science volunteers to support the programme

  • Use the pilot to attract further funding to pay for interventions in all of the identified tributaries

The long term goal is to Improve the water quality and slow the flow in the 5 identified tributaries that cross NT land and arrive in the NDWSR boundaries.

The aim is to empower groups and individuals to champion nature’s recovery in their local area and co-produce sustainable solutions to the shared environmental and social challenges faced across our communities in North Devon and Torridge.

Biosphere Communities

EAND is a Delivery partner on a North Devon UNESCO Biosphere 4 year programme funded by the Climate Action Fund which aims to co-design programmes with communities in Bideford, South Molton, Chulmleigh and Ashreigney to develop:

  • community-led climate action that is further reaching, better connected, better equipped and more resilient

  • stronger green career pathways and a larger green economy with more opportunities for local young people

  • communities that are increasingly nature-rich and better placed to tackle and mitigate the climate challenge

  • community hubs which can access expert advice and cascade support and links out to the wider community

Community-led activities are expected to involve habitat creation and wildlife conservation, with a particular focus on developing the green skills and knowledge of young people while also engaging some of the ‘quieter voices’ in our communities.

Historical Collaborations

Northern Devon Visualisation Survey 2020

In March 2020 the Plastic Free North Devon Consortium member organisations embarked upon a regional public survey to capture the public’s values and any behavioural changes they intended to make after the lockdown of spring 2020. This snapshot survey is providing local groups and organisations with a baseline of aspirations and experiences to help shape where we live and to improve the quality of life for all residents alongside an improved and flourishing environment.

Plastic Free North Devon Consortium

We are proud to have been instrumental in bringing together the innovatory and distinct Plastic Free North Devon Consortium (PFNDC).  This was a group of organisations committed collectively and individually to eradicating single-use plastics in northern Devon and building a more sustainable community for all.

The consortium was initially created in 2018 to help combat the global catastrophe of plastic pollution through local action.  Each partner understood the importance of working together to pool ideas and resources in order to make a real and noticeable difference to this crisis. Its strategy demonstrated a refreshing approach to inter-sector sustainable development to drive significant change in the area.
