Bellyboard Rentals

Our bellyboard rental project aims to reduce plastic pollution on our beaches by minimising the demand for cheap, flimsy, polystyrene bodyboards.

What’s the problem with cheap, flimsy, polystyrene bodyboards?

Your average cheap polystyrene body-board is manufactured in China, shipped over 5000 miles, distributed to stores and surfed for 10 minutes before breaking and going to landfill.

About 99% of all plastic comes from fossil fuels, these are then refined and manufactured into plastic, transported, used by consumers and disposed of into some form of waste management system or the natural environment.  Every stage of this process releases toxic chemicals into the environment that wildlife and humans ingest and inhale.

In 2021, 485 polystyrene bodyboards were collected from Croyde by the Keep Britain Tidy #waveofwaste project despite the best efforts of local businesses, organisations and a coordinated campaign across the area.

We are encouraging everyone to opt for more sustainable options to create a more sustainable bodyboard culture.
